JRC is organising a fourth Evidence and Policy Summer School – a professional training during which policymakers and researchers can learn together how to use evidence for effective policies. This year, we will meet in Austria from 5-7 September 2018 with policymakers and scientists from EU Neighbourhood countries, Turkey, Western Balkans and EU Member States. Our focus will be on the use of research in policies addressing, or affected by, migration and demographic changes. In this strategic area, evidence is often confusing and controversial, which is why it is important for civil servants and researchers to develop skills in using science in policymaking.

We encourage you to invite particularly policy-makers but also researchers to submit an application to join us in Austria.

The call for, applications is open on our website until May 28, 2018: https://ec.europa.eu/jrc/en/event/workshop/evidence-policy-summer-school-science-policy-and-demography

The summer school aims to help researchers to have more impact and policymakers to use evidence for policy solutions. The workshop will focus on the tools and approaches to inform the policymaking process through evidence.

Application – Please apply online outlining your motivation and why you think this training will help you in your current job. Deadline: 28 May 2018

The selection process strives to achieve a balanced representation of qualified candidates, including by gender and country, evaluating past experiences and motivation of the applicants.

The objective of our initiative is to build capacity for using evidence in policymaking, and thus improve governance in the Member States, as well as the neighbourhood third countries. This year we invite participants from Western Balkan (Albanian, Bosnia-Herzegovina, former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo), Turkey and the sixteen Eastern and Southern EU neighbouring countries, namely Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Egypt, Georgia, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Moldova, Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia and Ukraine.

While no EU citizen will be excluded from participation, priority will be given to participants from Western Balkan and the European Neighbourhood Countries, to tackle the lower capacity of evidence for policy bodies in these regions. We are also particularly encouraging applications from policymakers and researchers from Algeria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Lebanon, Libya, Palestine, Syria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo.
