According to the European Commission, 85% of the new jobs created during the last five years are due to SMEs. Entrepreneurs are the driving force behind these businesses and are thus vital to this process.

In order to support entrepreneurs and their businesses the European Commission has launched its Entrepreneurship 2020 Action Plan. The plan aims to ensure economic innovation and create jobs through promoting entrepreneurship in the EU28.

This timely Symposium will offer an opportunity to examine current challenges and developments related to entrepreneurship in Europe as well as to evaluate the role of small and medium size enterprises for economic growth. It will explore entrepreneurship as a way to enhance employability and discuss solutions to transform business failures into learning opportunities for future improvements. The conference will support the exchange of ideas and encourage delegates to engage in thought-provoking topical debate with local and regional practitioners and policymakers at EU level.

Delegates will:

  • Discuss the latest developments regarding entrepreneurship at EU level
  • Assess the role of SMEs in fostering economic growth
  • Explore the potential of entrepreneurship in tackling unemployment
  • Analyse ways forward and challenges for start-ups in Europe
