Európska charta a kódex pre výskumných pracovníkov
V roku 2005 Európska komisia prijala Európsku chartu pre výskumných pracovníkov a Kódex správania pre nábor výskumných pracovníkov. Tieto dva dokumenty adresované výskumníkom, ako aj výskumným zamestnávateľom a financujúcim subjektom vo verejnom aj súkromnom sektore sú kľúčovými prvkami politiky EÚ na podporu kariéry výskumných pracovníkov. Podpora kariér výskumníkov v Európe je roztrieštená na miestnej, regionálnej, národnej alebo odvetvovej úrovni a neumožňuje Európe čo najlepšie využiť jej vedecký potenciál. Charta a kódex zabezpečujú, že výskumníci môžu mať rovnaké práva a povinnosti v ktorejkoľvek európskej krajine.
Európska charta výskumných pracovníkov je súbor všeobecných zásad a požiadaviek, ktoré špecifikujú úlohy, zodpovednosti a nároky výskumných pracovníkov, ako aj zamestnávateľov a / alebo financujúcich pracovníkov výskumných pracovníkov. Aplikácia do praxe je zodpovednosťou zamestnávateľov, financujúcich organizácií a výskumníkov samotných.
Cieľom charty je zabezpečiť, aby povaha vzťahu medzi výskumníkmi a zamestnávateľmi alebo financujúcimi organizáciami prispievala k úspešnému výkonu v oblasti vytvárania, prenosu, zdieľania a šírenia poznatkov a technologického rozvoja a kariérneho rozvoja výskumných pracovníkov. Charta tiež uznáva hodnotu všetkých foriem mobility ako prostriedku na posilnenie profesionálneho rozvoja výskumných pracovníkov. V tomto zmysle charta predstavuje rámec pre výskumných pracovníkov, zamestnávateľov a financujúcich pracovníkov, ktorí ich vyzývajú, aby konali zodpovedne a profesionálne vo svojom pracovnom prostredí, a aby sa navzájom uznávali ako také. Charta sa zaoberá všetkými výskumníkmi v Európskej únii vo všetkých fázach svojej kariéry a pokrýva všetky oblasti výskumu vo verejnom a súkromnom sektore bez ohľadu na povahu menovania alebo zamestnania, právne postavenie svojho zamestnávateľa alebo typ organizácie alebo v ktorom sa práca vykonáva. Zohľadňuje viacero úloh výskumníkov, ktorí sú určení nielen na vykonávanie výskumu a / alebo na realizáciu rozvojových aktivít, ale aj na dohľad, mentoring, riadenie alebo administratívne úlohy.

Slovenská republika dlhodobo zaostáva za ostatnými krajinami v zapájaní sa do aktivít európskeho výskumného priestoru (ERA), a to najmä do projektov rámcových programov EÚ. Nedostatočná medzinárodná spolupráca má negatívny vplyv na kvalitu národného výskumu. Za tento nelichotivý stav môže viacero faktorov. Medzi najhlavnejšie však patria výška výdajov na výskum a vývoj (porovnanie SR s členskými krajinami EÚ a v rámci OECD) a kvalita vzdelávacieho systému.
Centrum vedecko-technických informácií SR sa rozhodlo podporiť medzinárodnú spoluprácu okrem iného aj prostredníctvom vytvorenia siete slovenských výskumníkov pôsobiacich v zahraničí. V rámci projektu SK4ERA je pripravená séria nástrojov, ktoré by mali uľahčiť interakciu s prostredím vedy a inovácií na Slovensku. Využívanie týchto nástrojov zlepší spoluprácu medzi inštitúciami a výskumníkmi v zahraničí.
Pilotnou aktivitou je v tomto smere špecializovaná mentoringová schéma SK4ERA, ktorá má zvýšiť účasť Slovenska v rámcovom programe Horizont 2020/ Horizont Európa. Na ňu teraz nadväzujeme vytvorením registra vedcov pôsobiacich v zahraničí - Alumni, ktorý môže poslúžiť aj ako zdroj kontaktov pre honorovaný mentoring riešiteľov projektov. Zároveň sa tak vytvorí databáza potenciálnych rečníkov na podujatiach v Slovenskej republike a v zahraničí, z ktorého budú môcť čerpať ostatné verejné výskumné inštitúcie, univerzity i odborná verejnosť. Hlavným cieľom ALUMNI DATABÁZY, ktorá zoskupuje slovenských vedcov pôsobiacich v zahraničí, je zvýšiť účasť Slovenska v projektoch medzinárodnej spolupráce.

A čo si o tejto iniciatíve myslia tí, ktorých sa to týka, teda samotní vedci? Prečo si myslíte, že Alumni databáza je dôležitá?
V.K.: Som bioinformatička, na Slovensku som nikdy neštudovala ani nepracovala. Bioinformatika je bežne vyučovaná na univerzitách v USA od 90. rokov, u nás je ešte stále v plienkach a nie je možné v nej obdržať Mgr., ani PhD, titul. Tzv. big data nám umožňujú učiť sa z minulosti a predikovať budúcnosť, vyriešiť podstatu mnohých ochorení a vystavať podklady pre wet-lab biológov na riešenie hlavných otázok mnohých projektov. Prostredníctvom databázy Alumni som ochotná zdieľať svoje vedomosti a nadväzovať nové profesijné známosti, ako i uvažovať nad spoločným projektom.
L.B.: Databáza Alumni je výborný nápad ako rozšíriť povedomie o vedkyniach a vedcoch pôsobiacich mimo SR a ako zvýšiť ich spoluprácu s domácimi kolegami. Na viacerých univerzitách v zahraničí podobný nástroj bežne funguje. Kontakty z databázy sú využívané na mentoring, couching a na získavanie informácii o akademických podmienkach v prípade záujmu práce/ štúdia na danej univerzite. Osobne si myslím, že je žiadúce a ukáže sa byť prospešné, vytvoriť jednu spoločnú sieť kontaktov aj na Slovenku.
J.L.: V zahraničí žije podľa oficiálnych údajov 300000 Slovákov. Nemáme vôbec predstavu, akú časť predstavujú slovenskí vedci, ktorí vycestovali zo Slovenska za účelom získavania skúsenosti v medzinárodných tímoch. Alumni databáza môže výrazne pomôcť pri získavaní týchto informácii. My vedci často chodíme na konferencie, workshopy a stáže do miest, kde sme nikdy predtým neboli a nikoho tam nepoznáme. Je preto vždy prijemné zistiť, že tam budú aj iní Slováci a len tak sa nezáväzne stretnúť a porozprávať.
Je podľa vás mentoring užitočný?
L.B.: Aktívna účasť na mentoringu by mala byť v dnešnej dobe bežnou praxou pre vedcov aj študentov. Ja osobne som ako študentka veľakrát tápala v tom, na koho sa môžem obrátiť a požiadať o pomoc alebo nejakú radu. Počas môjho pôsobenia v Štokholme a neskôr aj v Dubline som sa zúčastnila niekoľkých kariérne zameraných workshopov a vždy som sa stretla s ľuďmi ochotnými so mnou otvorene diskutovať, čo mi pomohlo v mojich ďalších rozhodnutiach.
V.K.: Mentoring som absolvovala v Nemecku v roku 2017. Moja mentorka bola prof. Jane Parker z Inštitútu Maxa Plancka pre výskum šľachtenia rastlín v Kolíne nad Rýnom. Bolo to skvelé. Načerpala som množstvo inšpirácie, prenieslo sa na mňa kvantum entuziazmu od špičkovej vedkyne a dostala som množstvo rád. V rámci všeobecnej časti som sa dozvedela o kultúrnych a povahových rozdieloch rozmanitého spektra spolupracovníkov, príznakoch depresie a clivosti po domove, kariérnych možnostiach a ako balansovať pracovný a osobný život. Veľmi užitočný bol aj „couching“ od lektoriek špecializujúcich sa na body-language, prácu s hlasom, ako prednášať na medzinárodných konferenciách, ako písať granty, ako povedať NIE a ako vyjednávať počas rokovaní o pracovnej zmluve.
J.L.: Mentoring je podľa mňa v dnešnej dobe dôležitý v každej profesii, ale pre vedcov je to nevyhnutnosť. Ja som sa osobne zúčastnila na niekoľkých kurzoch ohľadne písania grantových žiadostí, prezentácie vedeckých výsledkov, vystupovania a komunikácie. Naučila som sa, že nielen obsah, ale aj forma musia byt na top úrovni. Ak sa podobne podujatia začnú vo veľkom organizovať aj na Slovensku, budú mat šancu sa posunúť ďalej nielen jednotlivci, ale cela slovenská veda.

The Department of Computational Imaging Systems deals with the realization of 3D imaging systems based on artificial intelligence (deep learning) which have proven to be very successful in the field of computer vision. The physical setup of these systems is based on either modern human-collaborative robots to move light source and detectors manually or the physical setup is based on mechanical components like precision stages with an accuracy in the single digit micrometer or nanometer range. Both types of physical setups enable the computation of tomographic 3D image data of the scanned objects which can be improved significantly in quality by novel neural networks. Building such imaging systems requires the interest and ability of the respective candidate to work on the physical and mechanical design of the systems as well as neural networks to improve the overall image quality. Water shapes our blue planet, is life-enabling, and scientifically fascinating with a host of anomalous behaviours. When water is confined within nanometer-sized pores and cavities, wholly new and unexpected phenomena appear: water flows differently, its phase diagram changes drastically, and conventional theories break down. This is exciting from a scientific perspective, but also of great technological importance: nanoscale water is central to water purification and desalination, where water has to flow through nanopores, and for energy-related processes, e.g., hydrogen production.
In our project on nanoscale water, funded by the European Research Council with 10 million Euros, we aim to transform our understanding of nano-confined water. In collaboration with leading groups at Cambridge University and ENS Paris, we will develop new advanced spectroscopies and microscopies, based on ultrafast lasers, to ‘see‘ nanoscale water in action.

This PhD project focuses on integrated control strategy and maintenance policy design to assure reliable operation and high availability of ships powered by ammonia (NH3). Ammonia is one of the most promising hydrogen carriers and clean, alternative fuels for long-distance shipping and other maritime, or heavy-duty, applications. When produced from renewable power, ammonia could decarbonize shipping and thus help to achieve the goals of the Paris agreement to combat climate change.
In this PhD project, you will start from an innovative ammonia-fuelled power and propulsion system concept for ships utilising a combination of state-of-the-art Solid Oxide Fuel Cell (SOFC) and Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) technology, i.e., the AmmoniaDrive concept. This system contains many non-proven subsystems in new configurations introducing the scientific challenges related to system diagnosis.
The aim of this PhD project is to investigate how automatic control strategies could ensure a high ship system performance under various operating conditions. This requires input from a large number of sensors installed on the system. At the same time, this sensor data will be used to diagnose the system and predict upcoming failures. These insights will, on the one hand, be used to plan maintenance activities (e.g. repair, replace parts) just-in-time, and on the other hand to feed the control system, allowing to adapt the system operational settings (e.g. to reduce the loads on specific parts) to the actual system condition. You will investigate the operational control challenges of the ship concept, for the ship system itself, as well as in relation to the direct surrounding waterway users. The link between operational decision making (during navigation) and decision making for maintenance (typically on a somewhat longer timescale) are hereby considered from an integrated perspective. Of particular importance hereby is how to control the system in unexpected situations involving, e.g., sensor or actuator malfunctioning or unexpected movements of other waterway users.

This PhD project is hosted by the Dept. of Maritime & Transport Technology, TU Delft, and is part of the NWO AmmoniaDrive program. In this program universities and industry work together to achieve breakthroughs towards the transition towards a zero-emission maritime sector. During the project you will moreover directly interact with the researchers of the Researchlab Autonomous Shipping (RAS) at TU Delft.
Candidates for this challenging project have an MSc degree and background in systems and control engineering, maintenance & operations, mathematical modelling, maritime technology, or related areas. Good communication and writing skills in English and the ability to collaborate are important.
Doing a PhD at TU Delft requires English proficiency at a certain level to ensure that the candidate is able to communicate and interact well, participate in English-taught Doctoral Education courses, and write scientific articles and a final thesis. Doctoral candidates will be offered a 4-year period of employment in principle, but in the form of 2 employment contracts. An initial 1,5 year contract with an official go/no go progress assessment within 15 months. The PhD candidate will be embedded in the productive, collegial, and engaged Information and Supply Chain Management (ISCM) Research Group at Tilburg University. The group consists of faculty, lecturers, postdoctoral fellows, and PhD candidates. The PhD candidates are also enrolled in the world-class CentER PhD Program, where they will take about 40 European credits of courses as part of working towards the PhD degree. Two of the SCM faculty members are designated as advisors to the candidate for this project. For this candidate, the advisors will be Professor Henk Akkermans and Andreas Alexiou.

Tilburg University is rated among the top Dutch employers and has excellent terms of employment. The appointment will be for the total of 48 months. The selected candidates will initially be appointed for 16 months, with an extension for the following 32 months based on a positive evaluation. The evaluation will take place after about 12 months.
During the first year, you will receive extensive training in theory and methods by taking several PhD-level courses. There is also a good travel budget for attending summer schools, working visits and conferences. The training can be adapted to the previous educational achievements of the PhD candidate by mutual agreement with the supervisors. For the remaining three years, 80% of the position’s time will be dedicated to the completion of your PhD research, and 20% to the acquisition of academic skills through teaching courses and supervising master/bachelor theses within the department.
The appointed PhD candidate will be an employee of Tilburg University. The starting gross salary is
€ 2,541 per month (for a full-time appointment) in the first year, up to € 3,247 in the final year. There is a holiday allowance (8% in May), and end-of-year bonus (8.3% in December).
All university employees are covered by the so-called civil servants pension fund (ABP). Researchers from outside the Netherlands may qualify for a tax-free allowance equal to 30% of their taxable salary. The university will apply for such an allowance on their behalf. The university offers very good fringe benefits (it is one of the best non-profit employers in the Netherlands), such as an options model for terms and conditions of employment and excellent reimbursement of moving expenses.

Our Strontium Quantum Gases Group is looking for a postdoc who wants to take part in leading the new Quantum Delta NL (QDNL) Ultracold Quantum Sensing Testbed. This group is headed by Prof. Florian Schreck and is part of the Quantum Gases & Quantum Information (QG&QI) cluster at the Institute of Physics (IoP) of the University of Amsterdam (UvA). We exploit ultracold Sr gases for quantum sensing, the study of many-body physics and for quantum computing. We are collaborating with industry, startups and users to bring optical clocks to the market and explore new ways to build sensors, such as superradiant clocks or atom interferometers based on continuous atom lasers.
What are you going to do?
You are given the opportunity to take a leading role in the establishment and running of the QDNL Ultracold Quantum Sensing Testbed. This testbed focuses on following activities, in close collaboration with all research projects in our group (see www.strontiumBEC.com).
You are invited to join our team of eight PhDs and postdocs working on ultracold quantum sensing. You are expected to be strongly involved in all activities of our testbed that involve external partners. You are invited to participate in all other activities of the testbed. Together with you, we will determine which topics are the most suitable for you to start on. The maximum duration of this position is four years and during that time you can get involved in several of our topics or even start new activities aligned with the mission of the testbed. For this position it is not required to teach, but if you are interested in advancing your teaching skills teaching opportunities can be arranged. Similarly, you are supported if you want to apply for your own funding for research in our group or your own research at another institution after you finish your employment at UvA.

Education and training of the next generation of scientists is a priority at the SGDP Centre. As post holder, you will provide educational leadership on our MSc in Developmental Psychology and Psychopathology. This would include programme and/or module leadership, course delivery, research project supervision, and personal tutor roles. You may also support other undergraduate and postgraduate psychology courses within the School and Faculty, for example with project supervision. The appointment will be made on the Academic Education Pathway, where the primary contribution is to education (80%). You should be able to demonstrate suitable teaching skills and experience including curriculum and assessment design, along with an ability to supervise student research, and have a track record of high-quality research outputs.
You should have an area of research that complements the existing interdisciplinary research in the SGDP Centre. Our expertise includes developmental psychology, epidemiology, behavioural genetics, statistical genetics, lifespan approaches, digital phenotyping and the integration of administrative and biomarker data. Inter-disciplinary research and collaboration with existing Centre research programmes will be encouraged. The Centre is home to the Twins Early Development Study (TEDS) and the E-Risk study. We are seeking to appoint two organised and enthusiastic Post-Doctoral Research Associates.
The successful candidates will be part of a team testing viral vector gene therapy reagents aimed at treating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and fronto-temporal dementia (FTD) on a commercially funded project.
The aim of the project is to optimise the dose and delivery of gene supplement and knock-down vectors in cellular and animal models of disease as proof of concept and efficacy for potential clinical application.
Working with Professor Shaw and Dr Youn Bok Lee they will join a team of technicians and post-doctoral scientists analysing cells and tissues transduced with plasmid and vector constructs and quantify the effects on target gene expression.
For in vivo work the candidate will sacrifice animals and harvest and prepare tissues for histological sectioning, staining, imaging and quantitative analyses. All experiments will be undertaken at a very high standard and all data treated with complete confidentiality
You will join a research group based within the UK Dementia Research Institute (DRI) centre that is embedded within the Department of Basic and Clinical Neuroscience at King’s College London ( www.kcl.ac.uk/ioppn/depts/bcn/dri/lab-groups) within the Maurice Wohl Clinical Neuroscience Institute on the Denmark Hill campus.

PhD researcher on real-time digital signal processing for distributed multi-user massive MIMO systems
Summary
To strengthen our design team, this vacancy is looking for a strong research profile on real-time digital signal processing for wireless applications on FPGA and ASIC in the context of distributed massive MIMO communication systems. This PhD candidate will work on algorithms, designs, system prototyping, and experiments for next generation radio access networks.
Background
The Internet Technology & Data Science Lab (IDLab) is an imec research group at Ghent University and the University of Antwerp. IDLab focuses its research on internet technologies and data science. Within IDLAB, the Design team is internationally recognized as a leading research group on high-speed and high-frequency integrated circuits for next-generation communications systems. At this moment, the Design group is for example active in eight European projects and in direct research contracts with world-leading industry partners. Besides these high-profile projects, the Design group is also a core partner in the ERC Atto project of Prof. Piet Demeester. These roadmaps form the perfect basis for high-level and industry-relevant research in an environment with expert peers and top-notch test and measurement equipment.
The main research lines focus on wired (fiber-optic, radio-over-fiber, copper), wireless (RF, 5G-6G, mmWave) and instrumentation for which custom CMOS or SiGe BiCMOS chips are developed and integrated in (FPGA-based) system demonstrators.
Next generation wireless communication systems targeting industrial applications demand extremely high reliability. One of the ways to realize this is by deploying a very large number of remote radio nodes that cooperate together. However, this approach puts a very high load on the fronthaul network connecting these nodes: synchronization between different nodes should be very tight (a few degrees phase accuracy, 100 ps timing accuracy). The bandwidth of the system should remain controllable. The latter implies that part of the signal processing needs to be performed distributed in the fronthauling network. To address these challenges, the Design group is looking for PhD researchers to investigate novel scalable radio access architectures and real-time signal processing solutions.

The dynamics of emerging risks such as cyber and weather related risks need to be handled with little or no past data. At the same time, for more traditional covers the wealth of data that is collected now presents new challenges (e.g., computational or ethical) and opportunities (e.g., statistical power). Bringing together the Leuven-based expertise on machine learning practice for insurance data with the knowledge on stochastic processes, behavioral data and dependencies from the Melbourne team, this PhD project will focus on:
Differential pricing is a foundation of modern-day insurance and deals with the actuarial valuation of risk by calculating a fair price for a new policy sold to a given risk profile. The so-called best estimate price is calculated as the ‘expected frequency times expected impact’ of the insured event resulting from standard regression models (the generalized linear models, or GLMs) for claims data. These predictive models are key in a business that is highly regulated, strongly valuing the explainability of the algorithms driving decisions with impact on customers. After selling a contract to a client, the insurer is liable for the claims arising from this contract. Capital must be held to meet these future liabilities. Calculating the necessary amount of capital is the job of a reserving actuary. Even though these key actuarial tasks are treated in silos in current insurance practice and literature, reserving is the mere continuation of pricing. Whereas pricing happens at the onset of the insurance policy – before any coverage has been provided – reserving is, in some way, an updated pricing of the insurance policy. The pricing actuary values the total loss on a policy from ground-up, while the reserving actuary assesses the total loss in the presence of some (though incomplete) information on the development of occurred claims.

This PHD position is part of a french ANR project, the PELICAN project : Optrodes for PhotoELectrochemICal ANalysis based on multimaterials fibers.
The development of miniaturized electrodes has been the subject of intense research for many years because of unique beneficial properties arising at small scales. In this context, the PELICAN project aims at developing miniaturized sensors based on multimaterials/multifunctional fibers as optrodes for photoelectrochemical analysis. The ultimate objective is the integration of all elements of an electrochemical cell within a unique instrument (e.g., a working photoelectrode, a reference electrode, and a counter electrode) to design a standalone, “fully-integrated” photoelectrochemical sensing system. The approach proposed by the PELICAN consortium is the realization of multifunctional fibers combining several materials such as glasses, metals, and/or polymers. Novel Stack and draw and 3D printing approaches will be deployed to reach the challenge of the multimaterial and multifunctional fiber fabrication. The optrodes will be manufactured by employing a photoactive semiconductor electrode integrated on multimaterial optical fibers.
The project brings together three partners: the V&C-ISCR (Rennes) and the ICMCB (Bordeaux) partners which have recognized skills in the elaboration of non-conventional glasses and fibers and multifunctional fibers respectively and the MaCSE-ISCR partner (Rennes), which has the required expertise in terms of deposition of oxide semiconductors and photoelectrochemistry.
The role of the PhD student in this project will be the production of the special glass preforms, the drawing of the multi-material fibres and their characterizations. In addition, the PhD student will be involved in the preliminary fabrication and characterizations of the optrodes by electrochemical means.

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position to study local translation in glial cells. The focus of the project will be to characterize local translation in radial glia and in astrocytes and understand its contribution to the development of the cortex in physiology and physiopathology. Our research combines molecular approaches to characterize mRNAs and the translation machinery (Translating affinity ribosome purification; Immunoptrcipitation; RNAseq; Mass spectrometry; qPCR…) with imaging techniques (Fluorescent in situ hybridization and immunofluorescence on brain sections) during brain development and in the adult. Mimosa Pudica moves its foliage when touched in less than a second by changing turgor pressure
in pulvinus cells. Pulvinus tissue consists of flexible thin-walled parenchyma cells organised around a core
of vascular pipes (xylem/phloem for water/sap transport), see fig 1. The selective change of cell turgor
pressure allows, for instance, the contraction of the upper pulvinus (flacid cells) and expansion (turgid cells)
of the lower one, achieving leaf motion by bending.
The PhD Thesis goal is to investigate actuator technology inspired from pulvinus: how does complex
motions emerge from a simple design but a complex pattern of cell pressure? Thin or bulky cell-piloted
actuators are expected to generate a large variety of motions depending on the applied pressure pattern.
The PhD candidate will leverage on a prototype of pulvinus tissue in 2D developed in the lab using micro-
pneumatics and silicone casting.
The Thesis has 3 goals:
1) Automatize cell pressure control using solenoid valves. [Skills: Python / Node-Red]
2) Create new prototypes (changing cell dimensions and material properties) [Skills: 3D printing,

Mobility GT in an international post-doctoral programme involving 4 academic partners – it is coordinated by the Laboratory for Tribology and Interface Nanotechnology of the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia) in cooperation with the University of Leeds (UK), Luleå University of Technology (Sweden) and University of Coimbra (Portugal) – and 50 associated partners, mainly from industry (e.g., Volvo, Scania, Oerlikon, SKF, Hidria, Kolektor, Mahle, Cummins, and others). The programme will host 24 post-doctoral researchers, each with a 3-year contract.
The programme will be realised in two calls for two cohorts of 12 postdocs each. Half the positions in each cohort will initially focus on fundamental nanoscale research (at the University of Ljubljana), with the other half working on macroscale, application-oriented tribology research of materials, surfaces, coatings, and lubrication at the (at the University of Leeds, Luleå University of Technology or the University of Coimbra). This will be followed by what will be an exciting, compulsory switch between the two length scales after 27 months (and includes a mandatory secondment at an intersectorial/industrial partner) as the “nanoscale” postdocs take what they have discovered to the macroscale, and the “macroscale” postdocs get the chance to look more deeply into their findings on the nanoscale. This means the postdocs will finish off with a 9-month academic secondment to complement the main period of research.
The first call will be available on Jan 1st, 2023, with the submission of a post-doc project proposal in May 2023. After an international review, led by six high-profile tribologists (including three Tribology Gold Medallists), the winning proposals will be announced in August 2023. After the necessary administrative procedures for the winning proposals, the first 12 postdocs will start in January 2024. The whole procedure will then be repeated, to recruit the next cohort of 12 post-docs, who will start in January 2025.
Each post-doc can propose their own project with bottom-up ideas, but in agreement with the host university. So preliminary contacts and a discussion with provisional mentors are mandatory.
The Mobility GT post-docs, with their individual research projects, will be able to address major challenges in green tribology in the following research areas:

The research focus of CYENS is on interactive media, smart systems, and emerging technologies. Interactive media have become an integral part of our lives, changing the way that information is conveyed to the user and the ways users interact with devices, with other people, and with the world around them. Smart systems have offered a novel way of producing automated solutions to hard problems for which the mere use of the human intellect is insufficient. Research in CYENS integrates the Visual Sciences, Human Factors & Design, and Communications & Artificial Intelligence, in a tight synergy that provides a unique interdisciplinary research perspective that emphasizes an “Inspired by Humans, Designed for Humans” philosophy. The successful candidate will conduct research as a part of the PEDESTRIAN project. The candidate will be working in the Socially Competent Robotic And Agent Technologies (SCRAT) MRG, under the supervision of Dr Loizos Michael and will collaborate closely with researchers from the Socially Competent Robotic and Agent Technologies (SCRAT) MRG. Possibility of additional engagement in other projects during the same period, and continuing engagement with the SCRAT MRG after the conclusion of the project.
The project seeks to develop a machine-mediated social interaction application for smart-devices that will allow citizens across Cyprus to reach out for help from others. Each user of the application will interact with the application in their language of choice. A user will be able to create written requests for information or help, and these will be sent by the underlying machine-mediated interaction protocol to other users of the platform who can contribute to the request. The interaction protocol is diversity-aware and is, thus, oblivious to the so-called shallow features of the profiles of the platform users (e.g., gender, age, religion, language). The proposed project will utilize the WeNet platform (https://internetofus.eu) and will further enhance its diversity-awareness by developing an automated translation process so that requests sent by one user will be delivered in the language of choice of each recipient of those requests. In doing so, the proposed project will facilitate the adoption of this technology in multilingual societies, such as that of Cyprus.
